You build the app
Zep is an API and SDK (Python, TypeScript, Go). A developer wires it into an application they're building — the memory only exists inside the agent you write. There's no “install Zep and your tools share memory”.
Not an end-user product
It's aimed at engineers and enterprises. You can't adopt Zep to give your existing Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex a shared memory — those aren't apps built on Zep, so Zep never reaches them.
Self-hosting is now DIY
Zep retired its self-hostable server (Community Edition) in April 2025. Owning it yourself today means running the raw Graphiti library on your own graph database and building the service around it.
Priced and sold for teams
Zep Cloud is credit-metered, with paid tiers starting around $1,250 a year and enterprise handled by sales. It's built for teams shipping agents, not for one person's personal toolchain.

If you're an engineer building a production agent and you need a temporal knowledge graph you control, Zep is a credible, serious choice — build on it. Atlaso is for the other job, and often the same person off the clock: you just want the AI tools you already use to stop forgetting and share one memory, without building anything. One is infrastructure; the other is a product. Plenty of people want both.
